The Chevrolet Volt: Clearly a Winner!

Posted by

The Chevy Volt… named 2011 Motor Trend Car of the Year, the 2011 North American Car of the Year, was recommended by Consumer Reports, and earned the highest safety ratings in 2011 from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) in the first-ever U.S. crash test evaluations of plug-in electric cars.

But the wins don’t stop there… the IIHS also named the 2012 Chevrolet Volt a Top Safety Pick for 2012!

A few months ago Consumer Reports conducted a survey asking new car owners how likely they were to purchase the same vehicle again. In the case of the Chevy Volt, 93% said they would “definitely” buy the car again.

Yes, there was an issue with fires occurring in Chevy Volts that had been crashed as part of safety testing, but The U.S. government ended its safety investigation into the Chevrolet Volt on Friday, after concluding that the Volt and other electric cars don’t pose a greater fire risk than gasoline-powered cars. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and GM know of no fires occurring in real-world crashes. NHTSA said Friday that it “continues to believe that electric vehicles show great promise as a safe and fuel-efficient option,” and based on available data, electric cars don’t appear to be riskier than gas-powered ones.

So if you want to drive a two-time top safety pick, a car that’s been named “Car of the Year” twice, if you want to be happy with the car you drive, then stop by Sport Chevrolet… we have the 2012 Chevrolet Volt in stock.

Chevrolet Unveiled at NAIAS

Posted by

First off, NAIAS is short for the North American International Auto Show, and yesterday, its doors opened in Detroit!

Chevrolet rolled out a few exciting concept vehicles while showcasing the 2013 Chevy Sonic RS… let’s take a look.

The Chevrolet concept vehicles are developed from market research and in-depth discussions with young consumers throughout the country and are then engineered by a team of young designers and they include a rear-wheel-drive boxy coupe representing “functional muscle” and a front-wheel-drive sporty coupe described as “affordable exotic.”

First, let’s have a look at the “functional muscle” car: The Chevrolet Code 130R Concept. It features beefy fender flares, a tuned-up direct injection 1.4L turbocharge 4-cylinder engine producing 150hp and 148lbs/torque. It also has the eAssist electric assist system that supplements engine power, performs regenerative braking and allows for engine auto start/stop.  The wheels are 20″, the engine is 6-speed automatic or manual and Chevrolet thinks it should get 40 mpg on the hwy.

Second is the “affordable exotic” car: The Chevrolet Tru 140S Concept. It’s a sleek three-door hatchback, front-wheel-drive sporty coupe with an engine producing 150hp and the eAssist electric assist system also in the Code 130R. The wheels are 21″, the engine is 6-speed automatic or manual and Chevrolet thinks it should get 40 mpg on the hwy as well.

By reaching out to the Millennial Generation, consisting of individuals who are already proving to radically move and shake the world, Chevy hopes to bring more new and exciting ideas into future vehicle designs.

“To capture the hearts of the [Millennial Generation], Chevy is getting back to the core of our brand: affordability, fun, optimism, and staying forward looking. But we aren’t doing it alone,” said McFarland. “We are harnessing the power of the voice of this group and co-creating the future.”

Last, but certainly not least, was the unveil of the 2013 Chevy Sonic RS. The all-new Sonic RS has a flat-bottom steering wheel, aluminum pedals, and a new shift knob for cars ordered with the six-speed manual transmission. With 1.4L 4-cylinder turbocharged engine, producing 130hp and 148lbs of torque. The wheels are 17” and it has a unique spoiler among other features unique to the RS model.
